A Conversation with Tony Adam of MySpace.com
By UCLA X425 Student Arianna Dulan
Until Tony Adam’s Lecture I thought I knew a lot about SEO and its importance to the PR profession… however his lecture taught me otherwise.
In order to know what your target audience wants you need to know where to find them. This has been the message throughout the entire class. During his guest appearance, Tony mentioned Flowtown a fee-based way to see what networks your email subscribers are on. I manage email databases for many clients, so the program works perfectly for me and is a great resource I didn’t have before. I picked one of my retailer clients, went through all the steps of Flowtown and then sat puzzled for a few minutes. To my amazement, the majority of subscribers we had were not on the main social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. So this taught me that all my efforts for this client need to be reworked and changed because our audience is missing all of our messages!
Another great tool Tony empathized that I need to really put to use is linking. Linking is a huge part of SEO that I seem to overlook on a daily basis. I have always utilized links in emails when pitching a product, but I never link certain titles or words throughout blog posts, emails, or news releases. From here on out, linking will be a top priority to maximize my SEO efforts.
Tony’s expertise and guidance taught me so much, I’m glad he was able to be a part of this class.
