A Conversation with Serena Ehrlich, Executive Director, Attention
By UCLA X425 Student Ursula Bjornson
What is your Klout score?
No idea what ‘Klout’ is? What about Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Wildfire, Technorati, Muck Rack, Slideshare or Tweetdeck?
Well, if you are lucky enough, you will get to know all of these sites, as well as how to use them, while sitting on a Thursday night at UCLA Extension listening to Serena’s fast paced monolog on such really cool social media tools.
It is fascinating that with social media you cannot only ‘be out there’ in the digital world, but you can also actually measure what’s happening. Serena shared free tools designed to increase the effectiveness of your outreach programs. She also gave tips on how and why we should engage on blogs, and the importance of building an online footprint in order to access customers.
If you are a ‘newbie’ to all of this, Serena’s discussion may seem overwhelming at first, but everything will connect and make sense as soon as you browse through those different social media websites and their tools. Just ‘being out there’ is not enough anymore; We need to engage, connect, reconnect and always be open for new opportunities.
Social Media is part of our society and we should use it to its fullest potential. If you don’t, you miss out on the opportunity to understand and get new customers. Twitter is the mother of all social media platforms. It virtually gives you breaking news right when it happens. You still want more? Just go ahead and check out all the free tools that let you tell stories, create picture books and pull virtually any topic of your interest from the web to create your own personal online newspaper every single day.
Very cool free tools: Rapportive, Muck Rack, Google News Alerts, Technorati,….
By the way, my ‘Klout’ score is 35….not very impressive, but I just started….
